Extract from Rust Report - Masses take to mobile e-mail
The number of mobilised e-mail accounts will explode over the next three years, according to a report by independent market analyst Datamonitor. A survey showed that there are roughly 650 million corporate e-mail inboxes worldwide today. Based on the assumption that at least 35-to-40 per cent of these inboxes could potentially be mobilised, Datamonitor estimated the global addressable market for enterprise mobile e-mail at around 260 million subscriptions. Datamonitor believes that mobile operators are in a position to make the most of the upsurge in growth anticipated for mobile e-mail. As differentiation becomes more difficult, pricing and partnerships will become key factors in achieving growth. Mobile e-mail is the next logical step in the evolution of mobile communications. The market is set to show rapid growth over the next five years, and provide significant opportunities for mobile operators and mobile infrastructure providers. Datamonitor expects the growth in the enterprise mobile e-mail market to come from two concurrent trends: an increase in the breadth of deployment, where enterprises that have already deployed mobile e-mail would increase the number of employees who have mobile e-mail access; and an increase in penetration. www.rustreport.com.au |
EMMA is an email classification system based on the automatic and incremental refinement of rules that are fed into a Ripple Down Rule (RDR) engine. Its goal is to afford users the ability to classify their email into multiple categories in a more accurate and time efficient manner than using traditional Hierarchical folders (one classification only) and manually entered filter rules.
These rules allow the multiple classification/indexing of emails with automatic clarification where rules are found to be ambiguous. Automatic actions, including automated responses, calendar entries, archiving etc can be associated with given rules.
EMMA has been realised as a proof of concept prototype which has successfully been subjected to (limited) useability testing. EMMA can be employed in a server, end user or mobile user environment.
